Holbeach and Spalding

Belonging to the East Midlands region, Holbeach and Spalding are located in Lincolshire County bordering the North Sea coast 140km northwest of London.
Holbeach is a small town of the importance of Sézanne. Very extensive, it is located 300 km north of Dover near the North Sea whose shoreline is 10 km far. This area has been gradually conquered over the sea for hundreds of years. It is for this reason it is also called New Holland. The soil is a very fertile but sometimes lower than the sea level. Powerful mechanisms ensure drying by means of a large system of dikes, pumps, canals that return water into the sea. It is a country of great cultures (tulips, daffodils, cereals, potatoes, peas, early vegetables). There are also very large greenhouses for growing tomatoes, cucumbers and flowers forced for winter. Its population lives mainly on agriculture and trade. Carte d'Angleterre

Located on the Welland River, Spalding is the heart of the Fens, formerly a swampy region. But today marshes, dried up gradually over the centuries, have given way to fields. At the heart of a region with a rich soil, Spalding is characterized by a flourishing industry with production of vegetables and flowers as well as conditioning factories close to the places of production. t was, for many years, well known as an industrial center of bulbs (tulips, daffodils, narcissus) and for its Parade of tulips. The city has many charming 18th century buildings in a network of streets on both banks of the river, which is spanned by seven bridges. One of the most emblematic buildings of the city is the Ayscoughfee house well-known for its museum and gardens.
